How the Real Presence will Save Us
This talk is about *AI* and its threat to our connection to *reality*. I review rapid advances in AI and how AI will create incredibly attractive virtual environments for all of us, similar to what pornography is doing to young men and social media to young women. Most of the world will descend into VR, spending most of their waking hours immersed in artificial spaces. But Catholics will be saved from this fate, because of the *Eucharist*. It is because the *real presence* demands that we take communion physically. There is no such thing as *virtual communion* in Catholicism – we will have to leave our computers and come to church. This will provide a *reality check* that will keep us from descending completely into virtual worlds.
Corollary: If you’re worried about AI, join a theological group that elevates the *body* and considers it holy. Catholicism is one, I’m sure there are others. These groups will survive, others will not.
